Bluetooth LE vs. IEEE 11073 - A technical point of view for connecting medical Devices

Matthias Frohner

Medical information is often created at the end-users home environment using personal health devices. Most of those personal health devices still lack a standardized interface which makes it difficult to collect data digitally. The ISO/IEEE 11073-20601 and the IHE “Device Enterprise Communication” profile define a common way to transport medical data from the personal health device to a doctors’ office.

How to get the Workshop site?

The Workshop will be held at LAMEGO: Teatro Ribeiro Conceição, a true architectural pearl in the region. It's right at the city center, by the cathedral and the museum.

The Teatro Ribeiro da Conceição was built in the eighteenth century and the facade that is conserved is a good example of Baroque architecture of the 1st half of the eighteenth century in Portugal. In 1924 , it was bought at auction by José Ribeiro da Conceição , who then lifts the theater that now bears his name. It is a cultural infrastructure of reference of the county and the region, it has 417 seats and is the largest concert hall of the Douro region .

How to get to Vila Real?

This workshop will take place at Vila Real, a beautiful historic city in the hearth of the region of Douro.

Lamego is located in the interior North of Portugal, around 120Km from Porto. Both highways A4 (Porto-Bragança) and A24 (Viseu - Chaves) will take you there. If you come through A4, you reach Vila Real, and switch to A24 headed to Viseu. From there they will be 20km to Lamego. So if you come from the south of the country you may take A1 (Lisboa-Porto) and comute to A25 (Aveiro-Vilar Formoso) near Aveiro and then enter the A24 near Viseu directly to Lamego.

If you come from Porto you take the A4. Because the tunel under Marão mountain is not yet concluded you'll have to go through IP4, but this is a natural path so you never leave the main route of A4.

Where to stay?

Lamego is part of a region composed of three neighbour cities: Lamego itself, Régua (10mn by car) and Vila Real (20mn by car). So you can use any of the hotel facilities in each of these cities, although we strongly recommend to start your search by Lamego, not only because it is nearby the Workshop site but also because it has splendid places to stay.
